Watch: Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood perform at Jimmy Carter's funeral

On January 9, 2025, country music legends Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood delivered a poignant performance of John Lennon’s “Imagine” at the state funeral of former President Jimmy Carter. Held at the Washington National Cathedral, the service honored Carter’s century-long life dedicated to peace, human rights, and public service.

Brooks and Yearwood, long-time friends and collaborators with the Carters through their mutual work with Habitat for Humanity, stood side by side as they performed the iconic song. Their rendition was marked by heartfelt emotion, with Brooks accompanying on acoustic guitar and both artists’ voices blending seamlessly. The choice of “Imagine,” with its themes of unity and hope, resonated deeply, reflecting Carter’s vision for a more harmonious world.

The audience, which included five living U.S. presidents, was visibly moved. President Joe Biden was seen closing his eyes during the performance, while former President George W. Bush gently nodded along. The couple had previously performed the same song at the funeral of former First Lady Rosalynn Carter in 2023, underscoring their close relationship with the Carter family.
