Barry Gibb on His New Album and Music Career | Billboard

The Bee Gees—Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb—were the ultimate example of a musical brotherhood. Talent ran deep in the Gibb family, and as the brothers built their legendary careers, they also raised families of their own. Many of their children inherited that same musical gift, but none more prominently than Barry Gibb’s two eldest sons, Stephen and Ashley.

Both pursued careers in music, and eventually, they became their father’s closest collaborators, helping revive Barry’s solo career in the 21st century. Speaking to Billboard about working alongside his sons, Barry shared:

“They give me that youth. They give me that fire.”

Their partnership blossomed during the creation of Barbra Streisand’s 2005 album, Guilty Pleasures—the long-awaited follow-up to her 1980 classic Guilty. For Barry, the sessions were as personal as they were professional. His sons introduced him to new music-making technologies, and the experience became a form of family healing.

“We got more verbal with how we felt,” Ashley told Billboard. “It was a mutual agreement that you could say whatever it is you’ve got to say and be as honest as you can.”

Barry echoed the sentiment:

“There was this huge personal thing going on between the three of us for the whole of this album. And I think it’s in the album.”

Together, the father-and-sons trio co-wrote several songs that would become highlights of Streisand’s record. Here are four of them:

1. “All the Children” – Barbra Streisand (2005)

Written by Barry, Ashley, and Stephen Gibb

All the children will send out / Love to everyone…

This uplifting track opens a hopeful message of love and unity. Barry, Ashley, and Stephen crafted it as part of Guilty Pleasures, continuing the Gibb-Streisand legacy that began with the original Guilty 25 years earlier.

2. “Stranger in a Strange Land” – Barbra Streisand (2005)

Written by Barry, Ashley, and Stephen Gibb

And I will be your heart and mind / My love is on the line…

A deeply reflective tune, this song pairs Streisand’s soaring vocals with Barry’s harmonies, embodying the heartfelt essence of their father-sons collaboration.

3. “Come Tomorrow” – Barbra Streisand (2005)

Written by Barry, Ashley, and Stephen Gibb

I’ll be your hero / And I’ll be your plan…

On this gentle ballad, Barry trades vocals with Streisand, creating a duet that feels intimate and timeless. His guitar work and production touch are also felt throughout the track.

4. “Golden Dawn” – Barbra Streisand (2005)

Written by Barry, Ashley, and Stephen Gibb

One golden dawn / One summer night / With nothing left to say…

The waltzing, slow-burn quality of “Golden Dawn” closes the collaboration on a tender note. Its dreamlike melody feels like a quiet conversation between generations of Gibbs.

These four songs mark a unique chapter in Barry Gibb’s legacy. For fans, they’re not just tracks on a Streisand album—they’re the sound of a father reconnecting with his sons, passing down a musical torch, and finding healing through harmony.
